director: richard elfmanwow! they call this movie "the citizen kane of under- ground movies"...
i can definitely see why!
this movie is brilliantly INSANE!
it's like watching your favorite musical on LSD!
the plot is pretty simple...there's this mysterious door (that everyone knows they shouldn't be going in) in the basement of this house that upon entering, transports you to the "sixth dimension" which is ruled by a midget king and his crazy/extremely jealous queen.
the movie is completely off the wall with innovation sets and costumes, extremely catchy musical numbers and hypnotizing animation that makes you feel like you've taken drugs.
the music and most of the performances are done by danny elfman and the mystic nights of oingo boingo which this movie was an opportunity for them to document on film what they were doing on stage before they called it quits as a theatre act.
i really enjoyed this movie because of its sheer originality and extreme surrealism.
if you have an open mind and like watching a movie going, "WHAT THE FUCK?" then you will enjoy it too.
