author: bret easton ellisthe first Ellis book i had read was " American Psycho " which was far more intense than the movie and first introduced me to Ellis' literary aptitude.
his books are fucked up and that's what drew me in...
his characters are breaking down right before your eyes and you can't look away. just when you think they've hit rock bottom, they go even lower.
" The Informers " is a collection of thirteen short stories that have a bunch of intriguing characters all intertwining within the chapters and all downward spiraling towards the same place.
it takes place in Los Angeles during the 80's and has everything from rich fucked families, drug dealers and users, rock stars, characters from other Ellis novels, and even vampires!
this collection is told by a new narrator every chapter and is one of my new favorite books. Ellis sets the tone and atmosphere in his extremely detailed descriptions and very dry dialogue.
i just found out recently that they are making a movie adaptation of the book which will be the fourth novel of Ellis' that has been made into a movie ( Less Than Zero, Rules of Attraction, American Psycho). The trailer looks really good and there are a lot of great actors starring in the movie included Mickey Rourke, Lou Taylor Pucci ( Thumbsucker ) and Brad Renfro ( which is his last completed movie before his death from a heroin overdose ).

unfortunately my favorite chapter in the book ( Chapter 10 - The Secrets of Summer... which is told though the eyes of Jamie, the vampire who takes young girls from clubs back to his house in the valley to suck their blood and mutilate them ) has been cut from the movie.
the book is great if you like extravagantly decadent lifestyles and empty characters who take for granted everything they have in life. i loved the book and highly recommend it. in the words of Sean Bateman,
" Rock and Roll !"
