Repulsion (1965)

directed by: Roman Polanski

i chose Repulsion as the first movie I will write about because i've been in my apartment alone a lot lately since losing my job and it's been driving me utterly insane. not to the point of hallucination, like the beautiful Catherine Deneuve experiences in the film, but i'm just so use to having a job (i've been working since i was sixteen years old) and i don't know what to do with all this free time.

anyway, back to the film... i love the fact that Polanski builds up the tension and mystery in the film which makes you on the edge of your sofa cringing for more. i was truly scared watching this film, which is rare and a good thing, and loved every minute of it. the movie has that 60's aesthetic which i really love and is pretty fucking trippy to say the least.

the sexual repression Deneuve's character goes through, which mixed with being solitary, creates some nerve-wracking scenes.

i don't want to spoil it, so watch it alone and ignore all the sounds you think you hear. it's a great movie, i highly recommend it... but don't stay in after watching it or you'll drive yourself crazy as well haha.

things to ponder after you watch the movie:

* rabbit in fridge = state of the protagonist
* why does crazy shit go down in apartments in Polanski films?
